Batty!

The Times today tells us that a Florida company, Spiritual Brands, has compounded the heinous crime of marketing another 10 brands of mineral water, by putting Jesus on the label. If only I were joking. Apparently, the customers are responding to knowing that God is with them when they buy these drinks. If He is, He’s saying ‘No, don’t do it!! mineral water is an ecological disaster!!’ Kinda like putting devotional messages on a crop sprayer.

This is what I was talking about on WW yesterday; Christianity in its broadest brushstrokes is completely divorced from the planet which supports it, which gave it a chance of living. I know many ecologically minded Christians; one place they didn’t learn to be a tree hugger was in church. More’s the pity.

Good grief, what next? There’s good old Rowan Williams plugging away at being environmentally friendly and telling us to give up damaging the planet for Lent and this lot do something as barking mad as this?!! I’m no Christian, but give Rowan Williams his due, at least the guy deserves the oxygen he breathes – this lot seem like a scandalous waste of air!

Unreal, eh. Triumph of Mammon over Jesus if ever I saw it!

It rather makes one hope that they get what they hope for, that Jesus comes back! Can you imagine what he’d make of it all when he got so angry in front of the temple usurers, peddlers and traders? What would be the modern, corporate equivalent of turning over their stalls? It’s something I’d rather like to see. I do hope it comes to pass, it could be entertaining.

Could be that mineral water and drink peddling becomes a criminal offence. What else do we need except tap water?? Can you imagine what drought-prone Africa thinks of the West? You can turn a tap and out comes water you can drink for less money than you can count… but you can still buy water in the shops for more than it costs to buy wine. Pathetic, criminal and unbelievable.

Not only that, but the standards for what is allowed in bottled water are much lower than tap water! Granted, there are issues with aluminium and the threat of added flouride, but those aside, I think we have fallen prey to the marketing wizards and lost hold of our common sense!

Mutter, mutter, mumble…

Too right SW. It’s water. It comes free and clean from a tap. We should all be so lucky!!
