I took this picture in Austria in 2004, on top of a glacier near Kitzbuhel. I loved this cross when I saw it, and never mind its intended implications of faith – the equal armed cross and circle is a mandala, older by far than Christianity and used by many religions as a symbol of good and of hope.
Against this background, of elemental beauty, it is more relevant than ever. Whichever symbols we use, we shouldn’t fight over them, but should let them and our different interpretations of them unite us.
